Maxim Exclusive: Elizabeth Masucci – part 1
Life’s a Beach: As a former Campus Cuties, this Fordham University fox made us consider grabbing our books and heading back to the library (OK, fine, the student clinic). Luckily, we were able to convince Elizabeth and her teasing tan lines to spend some of her summer break on the beach with us for this steamy photo shoot. We’ll just let the video speak for itself. Maxim Exclusive: Taylor Makakoa
See why this Sin City stunner is the only thing more scorching than the Vegas sun. The only thing more scorching than the Vegas sun is its hottest resident. See Taylor’s pictures here: www.maxim.com If you thought the macadamia nuts Aunt Betty once gave you were the only tasty things to come out of Hawaii, think again. Oahu native and Vegas transplant Taylor Makakoa has been heating up the Strip for the past few years as assistant to Terry Fator, ventriloquist extraordinaire at the Mirage. Now pay attention, dummy! Vegas seems like an intense place to get into showbiz. Weren’t you nervous? Not at all! When I was 15, I started traveling around Thailand, Malaysia, and Cambodia. By the time I was back in Vegas, I’d been modeling so long that the stage was really no different. Any favorite shoots? The coolest magazine gig I ever did was on a remote beach in Thailand. I was wearing crazy thigh-high Harajuku-girl stockings. It was really hot! Well, that’s more than you wear onstage at the Mirage… Definitely! My favorite outfit is the military one, because I know the military guys like it. But most of the audience prefer the nurse outfit. That gets a big reaction. What did you think when you first saw the puppets? I was nervous ’cause I didn’t know how to handle them. I’m not a puppet person! Probably for the best. Got any secret talents of your own? I do tae kwon do and fire poi balls, which are balls on a chain that you light on fire and swing around. Wow, that’s pretty …

UCLA Finishes Home Slate In Style, Beats UCSB 2-1
UCLA’s home season started with a disappointing extra innings loss, but they made sure that it would end much better with a 2-1 win over UC Santa Barbara. Now their regular season home slate is in the books, and a 24-9 home mark with it, leaving the Bruins with one goal — a strong final weekend at Stanford and a return to Jackie Robinson Stadium next week for the Regionals. The Bruins’ spot at a Regional host is just about locked up, but a national seed is still on the table and a return to Jackie Robinson Stadium for the Super Regionals would suit 37-15 UCLA just fine. Whereas the bullpen let UCLA down on February 15 when the Bruins started their season, it was spot on against the Gauchos. After Cody Poteet worked six innings of one-run ball, the bullpen locking things down. James Kaprielian tossed a scoreless frame and Zack Weiss followed with one of his own before David Berg slammed the door to pick up his 17th save. Poteet ran into first inning trouble when a two-out RBI single put UCSB in front, but he was nearly perfect from there on out. The freshman walked one in the second inning, but that was the only other Gaucho that reached against Poteet. With Poteet cruising, the Bruins didn’t need much offense and they didn’t get much, totaling just six hits in the game. They ran themselves out of the first inning when they were twice caught stealing, but Pat Valaika tripled to start the second and Kevin Williams singled him home to tie the game at 1-1. From there on, UCLA struggled to do much at the plate. They ran themselves out of the fourth, but were otherwise inept until the sixth, when they finally got back on the scoreboard. Brian Carroll and Kevin Kramer singled to start the frame and after an Eric Filia sacrifice bunt, Carroll was standing just 90 feet away. All Valaika had to do was lift a fly ball deep enough for the speedy Carroll to tag, which he did, and the Bruins took a 2-1 lead. With the lead in hand, UCLA pulled Poteet and turned the game over to the bullpen, which finished the game with ease, and the Bruins’ home slate in style.

Dan Guerrero “In Trouble”: National Media Continues to Clown UCLA’s Incompetent Athletic Director
And it looks like the media troubles for Dan Chianti Guerrero since getting busted by the LA Times , are only getting worse. Bellerophon blogged last night how the members of national media have been LOL , calling bullshit on Guerrero’s clownish response to the LA Times story . Since then more stories and commentary have popped up and they are not pretty. Let me start with this from SBN’s affiliated the Duke Basketball Report . Yes, I know it’s a Duke site, but it’s one of the largest college fansitse in the country and the reaction from them gives us a sense of how Guerrero has turned the program into a joke. DBR basically agrees with our point about how Guerrero trying to pat himself on the back b/c Alford held on Ben Howland’s players is pathetic (emphasis added throughout): Look, hiring a great staff is obviously key and keeping his inherited players a major plus, but that’s sort of what you expect, isn’t it? It’s not a lot to brag about – which might be part of the problem . Yeah, no kidding. Moving on to the Sports News where Mike DeCourcy is amused at the tone-deafness of a clueless athletic department (ht uclaluv ): If there’s anything in Chris Foster’s Los Angeles Times story that ought to bother UCLA athletic director Dan Guerrero, it was the author’s assertion that the administration “signed Steve Alford to a seven-year, $18.2-million contract with the expectation that his hiring would invigorate an apathetic fan base. They expected him to be greeted with open arms.” When Alford was hired, he was only nine days removed from an NCAA Tournament round of 64 loss to Harvard that was considered the most stunning result of the 2013 championship. He was hired with only a single NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearance on his resume. He was hired after primary targets Brad Stevens and Shaka Smart-Bruins fans who advocated the firing of Ben Howland were widely convinced they’d get one-declined. So it’s impossible to imagine UCLA was expecting open arms. They had to be pleased if there were no torches and pitchforks. One point of disagreement here with DeCourcy. As we discussed exhaustively during the hiring process (folks can look up the posts on topic using the search function), it is unclear whether Smart declined UCLA’s overtures, given that we still have no idea whether UCLA actually made a genuine overture towards Smart [which leads to an extremely troublesome unanswered question if UCLA decided not to pursue Smart with a full court press, why was that the case?]. Anyway, Ken Sterling, a reporter/columnist from Indiana – ya know Alford’s home state – lays out why he thinks Alford and his incompetent boss are in trouble : When Alford was introduced as the newest incarnation of John Wooden, it didn’t take long for the question of his support of Pierce to bubble up. Alford dodged the question, and when athletic director Dan Guerrero was asked whether he had discussed the issue with Alford, he said they did. When Alford was asked whether Guerrero had asked him, the answer was no. After Guerrero was told of Alford’s claim that the Pierce conversation never took place, he admitted that he had only spoken to his staff and Alford’s people about the incidents. Uh-oh. Journalists aren’t too bright as a group, but they can smell an administrator trying to backtrack with great speed when caught in a lie. For some reason, despite Richard Nixon, Bill Clinton, John Edwards, Kelvin Sampson, and Lindsay Lohan, people continue to tell lies, quarter truths, and three-quarter truths. Guerrero seems to have been caught completely unaware that thousands of people in Iowa continue to loathe Alford because he loudly backed a sexual predator. Alford should be in the clear, as he didn’t deny that he made a mistake. His mea culpa wasn’t much more than an admission of ignorance rather than wrongdoing, but it beats lying. As for Guerrero, he needs to understand that while the media are not generally Mensa members, they are quite keen in sifting through conflicting quotes and smelling blood . But, wait there is more! DeCourcy ends with this in his TSN piece: OK, so maybe Guerrero was expecting “open arms.” Maybe that’s what he has deluded himself into perceiving. But it’s not what has occurred at UCLA since Alford became the fallback choice to run the Bruins program. And the only thing that will change the mood will be an NCAA championship the Bruins seem a long way from achieving . NCAA championship? LOL. Forget that. The way the highest paid Pac-12 basketball coach is currently flailing around since his pathetic debut at UCLA, he is apparently having a hard time closing on a must get recruit from Southern California – PG Jordan McLaughlin – because he is apparently locked in a tight battle with that basketball powerhouse …. Just$C. GO BRUINS.
